B i o g r a p h y

Born in 1981 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

 

The Puerto-Rican mezzo-soprano studied drama and music at the University of Puerto Rico, where she graduates with a Bachelor of arts in 2006. She was a founder member of the Jovenes Universitarios de la Opera (Young University Opera), where she performed roles as “Carmen” (Carmen,Bizet) and “Cherubbino” (Le nozze di Figaro, Mozart).

The year 2007 was of great success for Celia being awarded at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and having performed her first role in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, with Opera de Puerto Rico. The same year, Celia debuted as a soloist with the Puerto Rico Symphonic Orchestra in Händel’s Messiah.

In 2008 Celia moved abroad to complete her Master’s degree in Opera in the City of Vienna. While studying at the Vienna Conservatory Private University, the mezzo-soprano performed the roles “Dritte Dame” (Mozart, Die Zauberflöte) and “La zia principessa” (Puccini, Suor Angelica). Having finished her studies, in the summer of 2011 Celia performed as “Mercedes” (Bizet, Carmen) in a tour over Japan with Vienna Opera and Operetta Classical Series. In March 2012 she was invited by the Vienna Conservatory to sing “The Prioress” (Poulenc, Dialogue des Carmelites). In April, she played the roles “Dame in Lila” and “Veith” at the Neue Oper Wien (New Opera of Vienna) for the premier of Woyzeck 2.0(Markus Lehmann-Horn). Later in October, she performed the role “La maestra delle novizie” (Puccini, Suor Angelica) at the Theater an der Wien (Vienna Theater).
